1. i wasn’t eligible for a scholarship… my parents fell into that interesting financial category of “too rich to qualify for financial aid, but too poor to send their oldest son to college”. i ended up going to fairhaven on pell grants and student loans instead… i figured that if i was going to figure out how to do it on my own, then at least i would go to an “out of town” school, so i wouldn’t have to deal with living with my parents at the same time.

   my son’s on a full scholarship. if i was footing the bill, he’d be out on the street.

2. I wasn’t rich enough either. Student loans, work study & gigs paid my way. My parents “loaned” me a total of $600 over the 4 years I went there. I paid them back along with every cent of the student loans.

   It wasn’t all rich kids. Some had earned scholarships also.

   So is your kid paying their own way or are you footing the bill?

3. i went to cornish as part of their “high school prep” program for musicians during my last two years of high school, and the year after i graduated… because nobody told me i couldn’t me a high school prep musician once i had really graduated from high school… i couldn’t actually attend cornish as a “real” student because i wasn’t rich enough to actually enroll at cornish, even back then…

   now my son, who is 23, is a student at cornish, studying choreography, but he’s a “for real” student, because he got a complete scholarship… he’s been a ballet dancer ever since he was 4 years old.
