a symbol of dire distress

The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
THE FLAG CODE, Title 36, U.S.C., Chapter 10, § 176 (a).
As amended by P.L. 344, 94th Congress, approved July 7, 1976.

I am posting this on my LiveJournal in opposition to The Patriot Act, which represents an extreme danger to the life, property and liberty of all persons living in the United States.

  1. The flag has retroactively been upside-down since 2001 9-12, although actual hanging of the flag in such a manner may not have occured until later.

Still, I’m wondering how many people are flying the colors reversed like that now.

  2. My old boss has had his flag with the union down since the beginning of the Iraq war. It pissed off his redneck neighbors but he made it perfectly clear that nobody is to come on his property with malicious intent and leave unscathed…
