beetlemania redux
about this time last year, i discovered yet another 10-lined june beetle, and this year is apparently no different, except that this beetle has all of his annenæ, unlike the previous beetles i have found… and, once again, i wonder if they have some kind of metaphysical meaning of which i am not aware.
more scientific information about the 10-lined june beetle, but no metaphysical information…
beetlemania part deux
just like last year only this year… makes me wonder if they have some kind of metaphysical meaning. the life cycle of the ten-lined june beetle indicates that the adults are drawn to light (check) and they emerge as adults in june or july, laying eggs in august. the pupæ spend two to three years underground, near coniferous trees (check) before emerging.
1 grid unit equals approximately 1.5 mm. total length approximately 3.3 cm.
beetlemania!
080723 – found on my front porch, a large, dead beetle; a ten-lined june beetle. i didn’t know beetles that large grew around here… and it isn’t dead! i just checked, and it isn’t where i left it… either it flew away or somebody ate it.
here’s another, bigger picture of another specimen, and here’s a recording of the hissing noise it makes.
