250426 custom-tailored band jacket – dark purple velvet, knee-length jacket with a maroon vest, cuffs, and lapels with gold accents
i think i may have taken the purple suit to a new and unheard-of height of preposterousness. 😉
so, the father of a guy i know made him a bright pink band jacket, and i asked him if he could ask his father to make me one. last month, the guy face-timed me from pittsburgh, where his father had a whole bunch of fabric that he COULD make a jacket out of, and asked me if i wanted something other than bright pink, to match his jacket… and one of the fabrics he had was this dark purple velvet, which, to me, looks EXACTLY like a ’60s-era psychedelic rock band jacket… add to that the maroon-with-gold-accents for the cuffs, lapels and vest, and… well… $450.00 later, i’ve got a custom-tailored, ’60s-era psychedelic rock band jacket that is exactly like nobody else’s IN THE WORLD!! 😎
now, i’ve either got to find a whole bunch of new gigs in which to wear it…
or i’m going to become one of those people who dress strangely when going to fred meyers.
i got six 90-minute cassettes from the mid-1980s (well, technically, it was 5½, because one side was ruined beyond repair) that came from ken whitley, digitised this week, and got them back on friday. two of them are ones that are the closest to the original masters as i am likely to find, at this point, of music that i produced in the eμ studio at western, between 1980 and 1990, which i had (and lost) on my cracked cloud drive. another one is the only surviving relic of the stairway jam, which, at the time, consisted of myself, eric barcus (who was to become my brother in law), kenyth freeman (my good friend and mentor), jeff taylor, and prudy elam, on friday, april 13th, 1984, at 19:30, also in the eμ studio. and yet another one is “The This of That”, recorded at solgarth, kenyth freeman’s home, by ken whitley, featuring kenyth on flute, and brent jackson on guitars.
a picture of solgarth, even though it is no longer kenyth’s home, because you can do that kind of thing these days…
thursday, i drove to lakewood, south of tacoma, and picked up 1 enormous (15’x17′) and 1 not-so-enormous (15’x9′) roll(s) of artificial turf, which were, then, lugged and schlepped into the back yard by moe and me, and laid out on the mud-pit which is what is left of the “lawn” between the deck and the garage, thanks, in large part, to the black dogs, quill and kestrel, who, literally, run in circles and tear up the grass when it rains. the artificial turf looks A LOT better than the mud, but the artificial turf is HEAVY and, as a result, i spent all of friday and saturday, basically, either asleep, or wishing i was asleep, and i’m STILL kind of “low energy” today, although i feel a lot more “sprightly” than previously.
my unicycle class was cancelled this week, because john is out of town and they couldn’t find a replacement for him… but it’s probably just as well, as i am still feeling rather beat from the aforementioned artificial turf project.
i woke up in an AWFUL mood, partially, at least, because i had a REALLY disturbing dream about two friends, who are moving AGAIN in real life… and, apart from the general feeling of dread i get whenever I have had to move, rubbing off, i don’t remember why it was so disturbing. i got up, and went through the motions, taking care of practical stuff (like laundry, dishes, doctor’s appointment, etc.), while wishing i could die, or at least sleep for longer, without having disturbing dreams.
over the weekend, i went to bellingham, to get some starts from darol… who is SEVENTY FOUR now… 😲 he said that, when it became legal, he lost his customer base, and hasn’t actually SOLD any cannabis for about six years. 😲 he still grows his own, though, and he has a healthy crop that is still under vegetative lights, from which he gave me a few.
250415 under lights
three “medium sized” “starts” (which are big enough that i might put them outside right away, if the weather stays nice), one “small” start, which is STILL bigger than the “starts” i have gotten elsewhere, plus two from seed, which are the ones with the paper markers, because they’re still small enough that i can’t see them without a clue…
darol also gave me some “surprising, but not surprising” news about my older-younger sister and her, apparently now “used-to-be” husband, which strikes me as REALLY typical and even expected, but still, not something that i would have entirely thought possible for someone who USED TO BE a friend of mine (admittedly, a long time ago). and everybody’s dying — 😒 — while i seem to be chugging along like nobody’s business, despite the fact that i think i’ve got long COVID (thus the doctor’s appointment). 😒
then, this afternoon, i went out, ostensibly to wash my car in preparation for SACBO, for which i just registered, and went for a drive, ostensibly to dry my car because i’m too lazy to pay for a drier, and sat through FOURTY-FIVE MINUTES of traffic to go the QUARTER MILE between snoqualmie ridge and the freeway, because of a new traffic light on a street that doesn’t even exist yet, but which had an empty cop car with its lights going sitting next to it… (😒), and, despite everything, the mood of the morning appears to have passed.
and, when i got home, i had a UPS package containing a wireless charger and two cube-taps which i needed to further refine my office space. 😉
i started them today. these are seeds from last year, but if they’re anything like last year’s crop, they should be pretty good. i’m also going up to bellingham, on sunday, where i hope to see darol and get some of his starts, which are, by definition, excellent. 😎👍
it’s a good thing it’s legal, considering the political/social dumpster-fire-in-a-flood-in-a-tornado that is currently happening. i wonder when it’s going to change?
it was, indeed, a very long and busy week, which reached it’s ultimate on friday-night-slash-saturday-morning, where we had a late (burlesque) show that ended at 01:30, and a call for a matineé at 11:00, which, for me, meant less than 6 hours of sleep between two very busy, 2-show days. and, because of the fact that we FINALLY got the issues we were having ALL F@#*ING WEEK with the monitors worked out ON THE LAST DAY, it ended up that we were satisfied enough with the show that we could have done another two or three weeks… which is, actually, a fairly typical sentiment for these shows, in general.
and the prominence of moisture festival madness completely occludes the FUBAR internet weirdness (which has settled back down to its normal SNAFU at this point) and social/political dumpster-fire-in-a-flood-in-a-tornado that has developed since THE LAST TIME I PAID ATTENTION… seriously? the CDC will no longer recommend fluoridated water? i guess this has become the set for “Dr. Strangelove”, now… 😱
acts i really liked, this year, include Al Simmons (a perennial favourite, for many years), Godfrey Daniels (the poster boy for the moisture festival, of course), Amy Englehart (of The Bobs, and a good friend), Lyla Goldman and her FLYING UNICYCLE!!! (FOR REAL!!) 😮, Paul Draper and his act which we FINALLY got right on the last day (😒), Bill Robison and his tape-face, and Tyler West and his “poo”-dle, just before intermission! seriously, there’s a good chance that the “poo”-dle is one of the 5 best acts i have EVER seen at the moisture festival, and it’s not JUST because of the guy who doesn’t know how to pronounce “shah,-tawk’-wah,“! 👍👍
i have isolated the “poo”-dle from the rest of the video, because it absolutely IS a moisture festival classic, in spite of the fact that it was an “aside” sales pitch for the raffle! 😉
