750

in honour of the 13th anniversary of his death, i introduce another frank zappa icon. i still consider him to be the most important composer of music of the entirety of human history. the world has become a scary place since he died, and, were he alive, i’m sure that frank would have something important to say about it, musically if in no other way. we miss you, and we remember you, frank…

  1. from what i understand, dweezil is making a go of it, but he’s already older than frank was when he got notorious, and he (dweezil) isn’t even half as notorious yet… we’ll have to wait and see, i guess…

  2. Zappa was a genius. An underappreciated genius.

I wonder whether the cool people are still here, trying to persevere, but are shut out of the media channels, because they’re too much like people and not bland enough to be inoffensive. We need more Zappas.

  3. i don’t remember who said it, or exactly what they said, but there’s a quote something along the lines of “teach people and they will hate you, but make them laugh, and they will love you, even if you’re giving them the same message”… and frank was definitely someone who people love to hate, as well as someone love to laugh at… and with…

and you’re right: i’ve said it before, all of the cool people are dying, and there’s nobody new to step up and take their place…

  4. Frank Zappa, were he still alive, would be satirizing everything he could get his hands on. And we’d all be rolling on the floor laughing, realizing just how well he matched everything.

Too bad Zappa’s not around. With Hunter S. Thompson also gone, it feels like we’re losing our spirit.
