906

a long time ago, i pestered a friend of mine into loaning me 4 albums by gentle giant, whereupon i spent almost the whole day playing gentle giant, and recording the albums to cassette, a task which i enjoyed quite a bit, but the friend got annoyed with and eventually left because he “couldn’t take any more gentle giant”.

i am in the process of downloading bit torrents of, and listening to those four gentle giant albums, getting stoned, and feeling nostalgic…

EDIT: i just found a more reliable bit torrent that contains 15 gentle giant albums and a whole bunch of other stuff… bit torrent rocks, and mininova FTW!

  1. Careful with the public tracker torrent downloads, too easy to get caught. Reason I paid for a whole years worth of rapidshare.com account in one go, downloading, no uploading, nobody grabbing my IP offhand 🙂

  2. they were presented to me as “art rock” back in the ’70s. i particularly like “in a glass house” and “free hand”, which are less “concept albums” than the other ones, although “the power and the glory” is a good example of their repertoire. they had a reputation for having 50-some instruments on stage, and when i saw them live in the ’80s, they had at least that many, and played all of them. their sound is “orchestral” and a lot more complex than most “rock” songs of that era, in terms of chord progressions, rhythms, and so forth.

you can find out information about the bit torrent, and decide whether or not you want to download it here

  3. Sounds interesting. The Wiki article is informative, but can you describe how gentle Giant sounds (and whether we should hunt this same torrent?)

  4. yeah I did a bit torrent download today… Abre Los Ojos (Open Your Eyes), the original version of Vanilla Sky from Spain.
