  1. start here.

i called paypal this morning. they said i had to contact the issuer of the card in order to clear this up. the last time i contacted the issuer of the card (last friday, two days ago) they said they couldn’t help me because i hadn’t received the number, and suggested that i contact paypal.

they do some things right, but not enough to prevent this sort of thing from being extremely frustrating: this morning they did lift the restrictions on sending, receiving and transferring payments to and from my paypal account, and refunded the $1.95 charge on my visa card that i haven’t been able to get refunded, but they also sent me two more automated emails detailing how to get them to “resend number”, which doesn’t work because of the idiotic visa policy that forbids sending the number more than once, and i still have a “complete expanded use enrollment” link on my account overview page, which i can’t do because THEY HAVEN’T SENT ME THE FUCKING NUMBER!!!

  2. unbelievable. it makes me sick. i know the feeling, ten ways from tuesday. i’ve dealt with them and had the exact type of treatment/experience and i’ve written vicious letters of reply to them that accomplished nothing other than temporary stress relief for me.

  3. start by reading this.

then add to that the email i just received from paypal that says:

I am sorry to hear of the difficulties you have been experiencing with your debit card. I can see you had the debit/credit card in February 2005.

We regret to inform you that if you are attempting to request another
Expanded Use Number for your Visa card, you will not be able to do so due
to Visa Regulations and you will need to obtain the original Expanded Use
Number. Please contact your debit card issuer to assist you in receiving
a copy of the statement from this time period in order to complete the
Expanded Use Process for this debit card.
To have a new Expanded Use Number sent, please follow the steps listed
    below:

    1. Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.com/
    2. Click the “Profile” tab.
    3. Click the “Credit Cards” link in the “Financial Information” column.
    4. Click the “Complete Expanded Use Enrollment” button.
    5. Click “Resend Number” at the bottom of the page. If there is more
than one credit card listed, you must choose the credit card by using the
    pull-down menu.

    6. Read the “Resend Expanded Use Number” page and click “Resend
    Number.”

I understand your frustration regarding this matter and apologize for any
inconvenience it might have caused you.

    Sincerely,
    Melanie

the problem is that i never received the expanded use number the first time… that’s what i have been complaining about all along: THEY HAVEN’T SENT ME THE NUMBER, which means that i am limited in the amount of money i can send, receive or transfer to or from my paypal account. when i contact the issuer of the card, they tell me that they can’t help me get the number because i never got it, and they tell me that i should go and talk to paypal about sending it. paypal wants me to talk to the issuer of the card, and the issuer of the card tells me that i need to talk to paypal.

i have done both, repeatedly, over the past two years and have gotten exactly nowhere and i’m furious! i’m so angry i can’t even see straight!

not only that, but apparently visa has some idiotic policy that you can only receive one expanded use number, which means that there is no “resend number” button at the bottom of the page. i have received exactly the same instructions so many times over the past two years that i could probably recite them in my sleep, for all the good it will do me.

    that’s why i say AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
